“Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe.”― Abraham Lincoln
Lately, I have found that my photographs are getting better whenever I put a plan for them and draw simple sketches. This month I thought of taking a photo for the coming UAE national day, which is on the 2nd of December. The first object that came to my mind was balloon, as a symbol of celebration. Then I did some kind of brainstorming, followed by some sketches in my small notebook. The finalized idea was to shoot my self wearing the national dress and holding some balloons while standing on the rocks of Abu Dhabi Corniche surrounded by a lot of balloons too.
Here is a digital version of the last sketch that I did for this photo:
Usually I go for shooting alone, so it is hard to carry many balloons with me. I decided to take only 5 balloons and to photograph them in different spots, then will use the help of Photoshop to put everything together.
I went to the location, Abu Dhabi Corniche, before the sunrise. I set my camera on the tripod and chose the angle that I wanted, putting in my mind where the sun is going to rise. I ended up taking 3 exposures for the scene, one for the sky, another for the rocks, and the last one for the sea.
After this I took so many photos of the balloons and my self holding them. It is a self portrait picture!
And as I said I had only 5 balloons with me, so I took so many photos of them in different spots on the rocks, and I merged them in photoshop to get the final result.
Here I would like to share with you a "before & after" video of making this artwork. I hope you enjoy it. ( Please watch it at 1080p ).
Thanks god that the artwork got the appreciation as soon as I uploaded it on the social media sites, and some other photography sites. And it will be exhibited in the country within some photography galleries on the occasion of the national day.
Also it was chosen by fstoppers.com as a photo of the day, when I first uploaded it back in the 26th of Oct.
Hope you like it :)
